Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 NIV
I was 12 years old when I decided that I wanted to become a writer. Nobody told me I had to be brave. I thought all I had to do was write the books and that’s all. Nobody told me that writing requires a level of bravery all on its own.
You have to be willing to put your heart out there for the whole world to see. Your thoughts … your dreams … your words are all on display.
People like to say that words once spoken cannot be taken back… this becomes so much more difficult when your words are in print.
I recently self-published my first book on Amazon. A very short book, but a book nonetheless. I told a few friends about it and that’s it. I didn’t promote. I didn’t advertise. I didn’t even mention it on my Facebook page or blog (until now).
Pretty soon I began to realize that without a publishing house behind me I would have to market it all by myself. That means I have to talk about it … yikes … and tell people about it …. How do I tell the world about my book when I just want to hide behind anonymity? How do I finally get brave enough to boldly declare that “Hey, I’m a writer? I wrote a book.”
What do need to brave about today?
