Give and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38 ESV
This video showed up in my husband’s Facebook feed last week. As you can imagine, it was a welcome change from the usual fluff that shows up on social media.
The video caused me to think about what I would have done in that situation. If that man had come to me, what would I have done? Okay so I know I wouldn’t have sold my bike to get him something to eat (especially since I don’t own one), but would I have opened my purse and given him money to get something to eat?
Would I have shrugged at him and walked away thinking all the while that he was trying to deprive me of my hard-earned cash?
There are two different issues at work here:
1. There are a lot of persons in the world who try to take advantage of those who are willing to give freely of themselves.
2. How willing are those who called themselves by Jesus’ name willing to give of the things that God has given them?
Like the story of the widow and her mite, our attitude towards giving is being called into play. How willingly do we give? Do we give as a sacrifice unto God or out of our excess?
If the social experiment conducted in this video was done with you, what would you have done?

Isn’t it interesting that when David wished for the wings of a dove the thing he wanted most was to be at rest?

We are refined through affliction. I wish I could tell you otherwise but faith grows in those hard to bear moments.
