The Online Dictionary defines hope as:
(1) A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.
(2) A feeling of trust.
(3) To want something to happen or be the case.
According to the Bible hope is the same as faith:
We were saved to have this hope. If we can see what we are waiting for, that is not really hope.
People don’t hope for something they already have. But we are hoping for something we don’t have yet, and we are waiting for it patiently (Romans 8:24-25).
According To Strong’s Concordance, the New Testament occurrence of the word is elpis.
Elpis means faith or hope. It comes from a primary elpo (to anticipate, usually with pleasure); expectation (abstractly or concretely) or confidence -- faith, hope.

Hope is both a noun and a verb. Not only is it the name of how we feel about something, it is also an action that we take when we believe that something is going to happen.
Does that make sense? We feel hopeful and so we act that way.
Hope, like faith, can easily be crushed if it is not guarded and protected. But we have to remember that ultimately our hope comes from God.
Here are three Bible verses reminding us that hope comes from God:
For I hope in You, O Lord;
You will answer, O Lord my God (Psalm 38:15).
Again Isaiah says, “There shall come the root of Jesse, And He who arises to rule over the Gentiles, In Him shall the Gentiles hope” (Romans 15:12).
I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).
What actions are you taking to protect your hope? How can others see the evidence of hope in your life?
